5 h. tour (Private tour)
(transportation + local guidance in Ancient Corinth + photo stop at Corinth Canal + free time)
You will be met by your driver at the port, where you will get off the tender boats. With your private vehicle you will depart from the beautiful city of Nafplion and you will be driven for about one hour to the famous Corinth Canal, passing through the lush valley of Argolis with its many olive groves, lemon and orange trees, before you get on the main highway. On your way you will drive past the Mycenean citadel of Tiryns and you will be impressed by its remaining cyclopean walls
The man made Corinth Canal, which is where the mainland splits from the Peloponnese and where the Ionian sea meets with the Aegean, was dreamed to be built since the ancient times. You will have a short stop there, where there are also cafeterias you can visit and the bridge you can walk over, from where you will see the breathtaking canal and photograph it.
It's a very short drive from there to the ancient site of Corinth, where your licensed tour guide will be waiting for you to greet you and to take you on a detailed exploration of ancient Corinth's site and museum. The impressive Acrocorinth fort was built right on top of where the ancient city used to be and still stands out from a distance. Most of the remaining ruins are from the Roman era, except for the still standing monolithic columns of the temple of Apollo. You will see the Roman Odeon, the Ancient Springs, the Agora, the Bema from where St. Paul preached, the archaeological museum with some extraordinary samples of the Corinthian pottery, as well as the amazing view to the sea and the valley, proving why that city was so important and world famous back then.
The impressive Acrocorinth fort, with its walls remaining in most parts in a very good condition, will help you understand even more why in antiquity they used to say that it was one of the "eyes" of the Peloponnese and that whoever would manage to conquer it, would easily be able to conquer the rest of Greece.
At the end of your guided tour you will be given some free time to walk around, to photograph the different impressive views and to take in as much as you can of the history of this place.
As soon as you meet your driver back at the parking area, you will be offered the drive back to Nafplion and either you can get back to your ship, or if time allows it you can enjoy walking around the old city.
